What is the most important massage you have on this topic?
“My core message is that India has transformed crop insurance from a paperwork-driven scheme into one of the world’s largest digital, transparent, and farmer-centric ecosystems. The National Crop Insurance Portal (NCIP) supports for instance end-to-end processes—from enrolment and verification to subsidy release and claim settlement. We also have seamless API links with banks, unique identifiers (UID) and land records. This whole package has streamlined policy issuance, premium collection, and farmer verification.”
Dange empathizes the importance of data. “We use satellite imagery, remote sensing, and weather data to strengthen yield estimation, claims accuracy and to reduce disputes. The accessibility for farmers has also increased due to mobile apps, service centers, and helplines. Even tenant and marginal farmers can access and track their policies.”
Your passion and mission is to strengthen the ecosystem. What’s your strategy to achieve that?
“I pursue it through three levels. First through technology. I’m championing digital tools, satellite-based analytics, and AI-driven models to reduce fraud, cut costs, and improve settlement timelines. Secondly I want to reform policy. We are working with government and regulators to make crop insurance inclusive, transparent, and scalable by simplifying enrolment, ensuring fair risk assessment, and expanding access. Finally we invest in training and professional development, so India’s insurance talent base is aligned with global best practices.”
How do you see the future of crop insurance?
“The future lies in AI-driven models, advanced satellite data, and fully digital platforms that deliver insurance faster, fairer, and with greater transparency. At AIC, we are also moving beyond crop insurance to cover allied risks—livestock, climate, farm inputs—so that farmers see AIC not just as an insurer, but as a long-term resilience partner in their prosperity.
